Best marketplace for digital products in India: an honest comparison
Indian creators and developers have specific needs: UPI payments, rupee pricing, GST on fees, and buyers who want help after purchase. This guide compares five platforms on those points using their own published pricing, and says clearly where each one falls short.
Disclosure: This guide is published by VegaDigi, a digital products marketplace managed by D&D Technology, Jaipur. VegaDigi is one of the options compared. Competitor facts were checked on their official sites on 27 Oct 2026 (as of Oct 2026) and may change; follow the source links before you decide.

What matters specifically in India
- UPI. Most Indian buyers prefer UPI. A checkout without it loses sales.
- Currency. Rupee prices feel familiar to Indian buyers; dollar prices suit an international audience.
- GST and invoices. Platform fees usually attract 18% GST in India. Know whether you, or the platform, handles tax on sales.
- Payout speed. How many days until money reaches your bank account?
- Support after purchase. For code and themes, installation help often decides whether a buyer is happy.
For sellers, the cheapest platform on paper is not always the cheapest in practice. A percentage fee is cheap at low volume; a monthly plan wins once sales are steady. Add payment-processor charges and GST before comparing.
Also think about who your buyers are. If most of them are in India and pay small amounts, a rupee checkout with UPI usually converts better. If most are abroad, a platform that handles international cards and sales tax saves you paperwork. Some creators use two platforms: one for Indian buyers and one for the rest of the world, with the same product on both.
For sellers: fees compared (as of Oct 2026)
| Instamojo | Gumroad | Payhip | Envato Market | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Entry plan | Online Store Lite, ₹0/yr | No monthly fee | Free Forever, $0/month | Not publicly verified |
| Fee on a digital sale (entry plan) | 10% + ₹3 | 10% + $0.50 (direct); 30% via Discover | 5% + PayPal/Stripe fees | Not publicly verified |
| Lower-fee plan | Growth ₹14,999/yr: 5% + ₹3 on digital products | None listed | Plus $29/month: 2%; Pro $99/month: 0% | Not publicly verified |
| Tax handling | 18% GST on fees | Merchant of record, handles sales tax (since 1 Jan 2025) | Not publicly listed on pricing page | Not publicly verified |
| UPI | Yes | Not publicly listed | Not publicly listed | Not publicly listed |
| Payout | Standard T+3 days | Direct deposit or PayPal, by country | Via PayPal/Stripe | Not publicly verified |
Example: on a ₹1,000 e-book sold through Instamojo's free store, the published digital product fee is 10% + ₹3 = ₹103, plus 18% GST on that fee. On Payhip's free plan the platform fee would be 5% (₹50) plus the payment processor's charge. Run the numbers for your own prices.

If you are buying rather than selling, the choice is between big international catalogues such as Envato Market and smaller stores such as VegaDigi.
| Envato Market | VegaDigi | |

| Catalogue | ThemeForest, CodeCanyon and more | 5,811+ products shown across WordPress, PHP scripts, mobile/Android apps, games, HTML and JavaScript |
| Payment | Not publicly verified | Cards, UPI, PayPal; Razorpay checkout |
| Delivery | Not publicly verified | Instant, to My Downloads after payment |
| Licences | Not publicly verified | Regular (1 free end product), Extended (1 paid end product / paid SaaS) |
| Refunds | Not publicly verified | 30-day money-back if it does not work as described |

Envato's strengths are scale and a long track record. VegaDigi's are UPI checkout, instant delivery, a clear refund rule and the option to ask a person for setup help. VegaDigi is smaller and newer, and it prices products in US dollars.
Which one should you choose?
- Indian creator selling to Indian buyers: Instamojo, for UPI and rupee pricing; move to a paid plan once volume justifies it.
- Creator selling worldwide: Gumroad, if you want it to handle sales tax as merchant of record; Payhip, if a monthly plan works out cheaper.
- Developer or agency buying a ready-made theme or script: compare the same product type on Envato Market and VegaDigi, check the demo, licence and refund rules, and pick the one whose support you trust.
- You need help installing or customising: VegaDigi lets you ask before and after purchase.
VegaDigi, which publishes this guide, does not currently offer seller accounts, so it is not an option if you want to sell your own products.
Sources and how we checked
We read each platform's official pricing or home page on 27 Oct 2026 and copied fees as published. Instamojo's page showed two different prices for some plans; we note this. We could not open Envato's official author-fee page (it returned an error to our checker), so Envato's fees are marked "Not publicly verified" rather than quoted from third-party blogs. Fees exclude GST and payment-processor charges unless stated.
